Product Overview

Note: Remember, you need a natural finish for your cutting board. They come unfinished to allow customers to use their preferred natural finish from reputable companies or ours. But unfortunately we don't support any issues you may have using finishes untested by us.

We are also paying the duty/tariffs/fees to the USA but not any state taxes (which you don't generally get).

This is the Large size version of our All Natural Simplicity Series Line of cutting boards, perfect for all of your heavy duty cutting or chopping needs. It is approximately  9" Deep x 18" Wide x 1.25" thick. (Sizes can vary slightly +-1/4"-3/8" as each of these are custom made from one piece of wood) This is the perfect sized board for someone who cooks large meals but does not want a cutting board that is too big and takes up too much counter space or storage space.

These boards are re-enforced with two high grade stainless steel rods in the middle of the board to help stabilize the wood, reducing the chance of wood movement (warping).

It is hand made with care in Canada using one solid piece of Canadian Hard Maple (Sugar Maple)  and other all natural, and completely non-toxic materials. Contains ZERO glues!

Hard Maple is one of the hardest, and most durable woods, and can withstand heavy use in a kitchen. ALL professional grade butcher block and cutting boards are made of Hard Maple. It is a closed grained hardwood (unlike oak, etc) that doesn't absorb bacteria easily, and with antibacterial properties on top of that it makes it the most preferred wood for cutting boards and wooden utensils.

The completely non-slip feet on this cutting board are made of hand cut all natural gum rubber, yes, natural rubber from a tree, NOT PVC or synthetic rubber, and they are affixed to the board with high grade stainless steel screws that will NEVER rust.

Our All Natural Series cutting boards are:

-100% Canadian made!

-100% Canadian Hard Maple (Sugar Maple) sourced within 100 miles of our facility in Ontario Canada.

-Absolutely NO Glues or adhesives, made from a solid piece of Canadian Hard Maple

-Absolutely NO Fungicides, herbicides, or pesticides used during manufacturing (NO antisap stain coatings)

-Absolutely NO petroleum or synthetic finishes, we only offer natural, nature made finishes.

-A tree is planted for every Urthware board sold to help offset our footprint.

-Comes with a completely finish free Virgin surface to be finished in your preferred finish upon arrival.

PLEASE READ/NOTE:

 * allergy note:  * We currently use Coconut oils in our facility as well as the following: Hard Maple wood, cherry wood, walnut wood, gum tree rubber (natural latex), stainless steel (304, and 316), Beeswax. Any and all of these materials may be in or contact your cutting board. We are an all natural company NOT a hypo allergenic one and make no claims to that effect.

 *For residential use only

Never use vegetable oils such as olive oil, sesame oil, corn oil etc. as a finish on your wooden kitchenware as they go rancid readily

 Imperfections:

This cutting board is made of one solid piece of face grain Canadian hard Maple. It contains NO GLUES or toxic adhesives of any sort and is completely natural. Remember, that because it is made with one piece of hard wood there are always some completely natural discolorations and imperfections like mineral staining, spalting, knots, etc. There may be darker and lighter areas as well. As we do not fill holes with epoxies or other toxic substances, we DO NOT sell cutting boards with holes, grooves, or any significant defects in the top of your board that could harbor bacteria, there can be some in the bottom or sides as it is not a cutting surface.

Wood movement:

For us to keep these cutting boards glue free and organic, we make them from one piece of wood, note that ALL wooden cutting boards, (and really anything made of wood) will display some movement (warping) from moisture, it can even be from weather change, and boards made from one piece of wood are, in general, more prone to warp than "glued up" edge grain cutting boards. It this happens we can not consider this a defect, we can do nothing about this as wood is a natural material that can and will move. You can usually avoid any excessive movement by keeping your board dry and well oiled.

Note on maintenance: Maintaining any wooden cutting board with oil and/ or oil+wax is a must to help prevent staining, water absorption, and warping and cracking.

    Great cutting board!

Posted by Leah on 22nd Jun 2020

We are so happy with this cutting board. It is so well made and sturdy. The feet on the bottom are very handy so the board doesnt slip all over the countertops. There is a little maintenance required but Urthware makes this very clear on their website and when you purchase. Added bonus- customer service is wonderful!

    Absolutely perfect!

This board is exactly what we wanted. It's sturdy, well-made, and we were sent very thorough instructions on how to best care for it. We ordered the Flax Oil, as well, to keep it protected and it has worked great. Thank you so much for making a sustainable, non-toxic cutting board that will last for a long time!

Finally, a safe cutting board option!

Posted by Christy on 29th Dec 2015

Heard about Urthware products through a healthy/natural living blog and decided to try a few of their cutting boards. It is a relief to be using a cutting board for my family that doesn't contain toxic glues or other chemicals. Not to mention the boards are beautiful, practical, and easy to care for. Thanks Urthware!

    Truly a work of art!

Posted by jka on 25th Aug 2015

All I can say is "WOW!" I work in the art profession, and have great interest in wood creations. When I received this cutting board two days ago, I almost refused to touch a knife to its beautiful surface! I finally had to do a bit of chopping action tonight, and used my new (expensive) knife set on this board. Again, "WOW!" My former bamboo cutting board had little "give" with even the lightest of knife strokes. This Urthware board didn't push back on my knife, and helped me to get the precise finishing-edge to the tomatoes I cut. It's a true work of art, but a functional one at that. Thank you, Urthware! I'll never cut on anything else again!

    Safe and gorgeous

The second I opened the package I knew that whoever made these boards truly cared about not only what they do, but how they do it. After looking at the beautifully crafted board it dawned on me that I do not think I have seen a board that wasn't just a bunch of glued pieces until now. I loved the instructions for how to care for the board as well, so I know how someone who loves and wants to prolong the life of their boards would do it without having to look it up. An the amount of beeswax and walnut oil that was recommended was spot on so I never waste any or under oil my board. Can't say enough about the quality of these and how much I appreciate the small footprint approach. Obviously them being non-toxic was the main draw but they exceeded my expectations.
