Product Overview

Please note: While our ALL Natural series lines of cutting boards contain ZERO glues being made of a single piece of wood. Obviously Butcher blocks are made of multiple pieces of wood and use wood glue to affix them together, we use an FDA approved wood glue (manufactured in the USA) MSDS available.  If you need a cutting board without any glues at all see our All Natural Series line

Our Heritage Block Series of cutting boards are made from top choice Canadian Hard Maple grown within 100 miles of our location.  They use the end grain of the wood which is the easiest on knife blades of all cutting boards.

Made using old world high quality construction techniques with a modern design flare.

The end grain of hard maple acts like the bristles of a brush absorbing impact from the knife blade by letting it slightly sink in between the wood fibres. End grain blocks are to a great degree self healing as the fibres return to their former state after cutting, leaving less cut marks than edge grain or face grain cutting boards. End grain boards are considered to be one of the most durable cutting surfaces while being exceedingly easy on your quality chefs knives, keeping them sharper longer than other cutting surfaces. These butcher blocks are heavy duty and very thick and solid measuring about 2" in thickness

Because we use a wide block design actual dimensions are as follow:

Actual sizes: 12"x18" is approximately 11.25-12"x17.5-18"

                   14" x 22" is appoximately 13.5"-14.5"x 22.5"

                   17" x 24" is approximately 16.5"-17.5" x 24"

Sizes can vary up to +/- 3/4" in length or width. Height is approximately 2" +/- 1/8"

These butcher blocks are heavy duty and very thick and solid measuring about 2" in thickness plus the height of the feet. The cutting surface sits Approx. 2.5"-2.75" above the counter surface (including feet) Every board is different. Photo above is just an example, lumber constantly varies and you WILL have variances in colour, spalting, and other natural defects in natural lumber as we don't use synthetic fillers or sprays. Sizes of pieces of lumber will also vary as we do not waste material some boards may have less "squares" and some may have more depending on the lumber we ethically obtain. Though all squares in a board will absolutely be symetrical (all square/pattern sizes the same)

Butcherblocks are only available when we get a chance to make some so availability is low. We can absolutely send a basic photo of a completed butcher block before we ship. Just ask in your order notes or email us with your order number.

What goes into our Heritage Series boards (and what doesn't):

-We use high quality FDA approved wood glue (manufactured in the USA)

-For every board sold a tree is planted to help offset our footprint.

-NO petroleum based finishes are used on our cutting boards (ie no mineral oil, parrafin wax, etc.) These are virgin wood surfaces that have not seen any coatings other than beeswax as sealant in screw holes and under feet or as minor imperfection fillers.

Cutting boards are shipped unfinished and MUST be finished with your preferred finish before use.  We are going this route for the foreseeable future as it is the number one request we have about finish (sensitivities and allergies).

-The non slip, soft, and durable feet used on this board are made from gum tree rubber not synthetic rubber or plastic.

-All hardware is high grade stainless steel that WILL NOT rust 304/316.

-All stainless steel hardware is mill certified stainless steel, not (foreign and domestic products). Which means it is all tested for contaminates and percentages meeting strict standards for quality.

-All of our products are Made in Canada (with domestic and foreign materials) to ensure the highest quality products possible.

-100% Canadian made

-100% Canadian Hard Maple sourced within 100 miles.

We use wide/large pieces of Hard Maple not small offcuts like others use. Why? because this makes us use less glue and makes a beautiful heavy duty, high quality cutting board. We ONLY USE FDA APPROVED FOR INDIRECT FOOD CONTACT waterproof glue (please try contacting the foreign company that your current cutting board is made by and ask them if they use formaldehyde or other toxic glues, we bet you won't like what you hear). This glue contains NO Formaldehyde or Phthalates.

There is no petroleum based parrafin or mineral oil in our shop, it doesn't touch our cutting boards, as mineral oil is a petroleum based product and the Beeswax we use contains NO Paraffin wax (again a petroleum based product) or fillers of any sort and is pure Beeswax when needed for filler or sealing purposes.

Note: Care must be taken with wooden boards and wood movement can occur (warping) in all wooden cutting boards as they are exposed to water and a tough life.  There can be some normal discolourations, spalting, knots, etc in your board, these are natural, and normal. Unlike others we do not sell cutting boards with cracks or large porous knots in the cutting surface of your board because we do not use toxic wood fillers (Ever!), but you will see normal imperfections.

    Beautiful board!

    Posted by martinezpk@gmail.com on 14th Oct 2015

We are so happy with our cutting board. Beautiful piece of wood sitting on our counter top and feels good to use. We are very happy to use it knowing it is non-toxic.
